Website terms.
Last updated October 30, 2026. These terms describe the informational website and initial inquiry process provided by RecoverLostFunds.com.
Independent, optional assistance
RecoverLostFunds.com is an independent recovery assistance service. We are not a government agency and are not affiliated with or endorsed by the State of California. You can search for and claim property directly through the California State Controller’s Office for free.
Our current focus
This website currently focuses on unclaimed property held by California. It does not offer automatic filing, court representation, tax-sale surplus recovery, or a guarantee that money is available. Information about fund types is general and does not establish eligibility for a particular claim.
An inquiry is the first step
Submitting a form requests an initial review and authorizes contact about that request. It is not a claim submission, power of attorney, assignment, or recovery agreement. An initial review does not establish ownership, representation, or an obligation to proceed.
Separate written agreement
Any recovery assistance requires a separate, compliant written agreement identifying the property and the agreed services and fee. We only enter into recovery agreements after the property has been transferred to the California State Controller’s Office. There is no upfront recovery service fee. For standard California state-held property, the agreed recovery service fee will not exceed 10% of the amount recovered. No recovery means no recovery service fee.
State decisions and timing
Potential matches require verification. The state determines whether the evidence establishes entitlement and decides whether and when to pay a claim. Other interests, offsets, missing documentation, and the nature of the property can affect the result and timing. We do not guarantee an amount, approval, or payment date.
Information and professional advice
Website information is general and may change. Legal entitlement disputes, probate matters, and tax treatment may require advice from a qualified attorney or tax professional. Our website does not provide legal representation or individualized tax advice.
Using this website
Submit accurate information and do not impersonate another person, submit sensitive documents through the inquiry form, or misuse the service. Our privacy policy explains how inquiry information is handled. Questions about these terms can be sent through the review form.
